Networking problem and connecting to Windows 2000 server

Two domains.....Home office is Server 2003.....other office has Windows
Server 2000.....I want to connect to this outside server.....It doesn't show
up.....how do i get connected to the outside server?

I need this so i can do remote desktop and server maintance from home
office.....worked find in XP.....

What do you mean "It doesn't show up"? Do you have VPN to connect these two domains?

Browse to see Browse For Folder...in here i would see My Network
Places>Entire Network>Both of our domains.....I then can expand the Server in
outside office and connect.....With Vista....Map Network Drive>Browse to see
Browse For Folder and in here i see.....Select a Shared
Folder>Network.....and here i see my PC and another PC......this time...in
the past i have seen other PCs on the domain i'm working in but do not and
have never had the ablilty to connect to the other domain......

How do you do that in Vista......????????????

We still don't know how you connect to two domains, VPN or they are in the same subnet. The only answer I have is computer browser issue may be related to the WINS or master browser. This link may help too,

We have a VPN......

Why can't i see the other computers on the Network in Vista when i look at
my Network Map I only see my pc and one other one......unlike you saw in
XP.....

As I said that you may want to check the WINS and master browser. Or use browstat.exe to check the master browser status.

thanks for all the help so far....I really need to get this problem
fixed.....So i understand your master browser and WINS....I will need to
check this on the server that is not in the home office and that is the
Windows 2000 server...

1. Do I check the master browser on both servers?
2. WINS.....what do i check?

This problem is getting nowhere fast!!.....after 2 months
research.....nothing...zilch...notta....

Found an article about the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD)
responder....installed that on an XP machine.....still doesn't show up.....

Found an article about this.......still doesn't work......

The first step in locally enabling the network map is to run the Group
Policy Object Editor (gpedit.msc) as an administrator on the local machine.
With User Account Control (UAC) enabled, just right-click “Command Prompt�
(Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories) and select “Run as administrator� to
open an elevated command prompt. From the elevated command prompt, run the
command “gpedit.msc� (no quotes). This will start the group policy editor
for the local machine.

I guess my next question is.......Is there a network admin that has several
offices w/ mixed OS and you are able to connect to any computer on any
domain......or are we all just sitting around looking at each other shurgging
our shoulders.....????????????

Ok.....something worked and I suspect it was the LLTD fix. Now on my pc when
i go to map a network drive I'm seeing all the other pcs on the net.....but i
still can't see the other server in the other office....It is a Windows 2000
Server....I'm going to start looking into what it requires on that end for
Vista to see it......
