Wireless Connection Problem to the Internet

Dear all,I use Window Vista.  I have no problem connecting to the internet if I use a normal cable but when I use my wireless LAN AP, my PC can detect the wireless router with no problem at all but then my PC could not connect to the Internet (the Earth).  My wireless router is a IEEE 802.11 LAN.  I believe this is related to some settings which require a code or something?  Could anybody let me know what to do?  thanks!!

Try to disconnect the wire (or Disable the wired TCP/IP of the wired
connection).

There are several flavors of 802.11... B (11Mbps), G (54Mbps), N (144Mbps)

B is obsolete, G is most common as N is newer and more expensive

Some routers and WLAN card support both B/G but not N.

Some only support one B or G or N.

There might be one or two that might support all three, but they would be rare and expensive.

You say you can detect wireless which suggest at the least you have compatible router and WLAN card.

But can you connect to them? You need to double click to make a connection. Just being able to see them is not enough.

actually the official standards state that G must be backwards
compatible with B - and that N must be backwards compatible with
b/g. There are entry level routers that support all three from all
the major vendors that are neither rare nor expensive.

I stand corrected. Looks like there's nothing keeping me from getting a N router, now.
