XP & Vista printer sharing
Trying to share printer connected to XP with my second desktop which is
Vista. Was working fine, but now Vista can't see the net work printer.
Message I'm receiving is "windows cannot connect to printer. make sure that
you typed the name correctly and that the printer is connected to the
network".
If you respond, please do not be too technical "I'm a beancounter" and have
very little IT knowledge. Thanks so much for responding.

Yes this can be quite confusing, had to go to the internet via google
to find. My setup is reverse, Have printer connected to new Vista x64 as
main and have XP connected as shared.

First off you must have appropiate drivers installed on both computers,
secondly which is where I think something happened, you have to have the
network name setup. Go to start menu, click on "Network and Sharing
Center", make sure that your network is showing between your computer
and internet. You can expand the check further by clicking "View full
map' in the upper right corner, it should show your gateway between your
computer and internet.
At the same time you can see if your printer and any other files are
being shared.

On the left side if needed you can do some troubleshooting of the
connections.

Let's take it to this point first as the first step of troubleshooting.
Post your results back here.
