How to Syncronize before closing VPN connection

Background:

Vista Boxes with SP1:
Domain joined Forrest and domain level:2003
Offline files beeing used with encryption.
MS built in VPN client
Smartcards are used for auth
GPO Set to force users to syncronze their documents on logon and logoff
(buisness requirement)

Problem:
On logoff, the vpn client gets terminated before the offline files sync is
run. Therefore there is a long timeout before the users get's an error
message because the client can't sync with a server that it lost connection
to.

Therefore we would need to change the order of things so that sync would run
before the termination of the vpn client. Anyone know if and how this can be
configured
