Vista adds computername\ to username

I'm trying to log into a freeNAS box SMB share which requires a username and
password. When I enter the username and password, Windows changes it to
[computername]\username which prevents me from logging in. Is there any way
to prevent this? I have tried changing the "Network security: LAN
> manager authentication level" setting to no avail.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
