Yes i have the latest linksys fw. and yes i have already applied the broadcast flag fix. Also remember that originally on vista i was able to get a dhcp address. only one of the updates? broke it. Now this morning when i logged in, i got a dhcp address!? I will have to watch it for the next few days to see what happens. i put in a static address in the alternative config just in case and last night it had to use that but this morning it used dhcp. strange problem.

go to linksys' web site and make sure you have the latest firmware for your router. In Vista, we made a change in DHCP, and set a particular bit - called the broadcast bit - to enabled. We found some routers that did not handle the change well, even through it is allowed by the DHCP RFC's.
The link that Robert included, below, is how to change the behavior of DHCP to revert that Broadcast bit back to disabled. Check your router firmware first, though, because if the problem is with the router, then it will affect any machine trying to connect to it.

I have a rather strange problem. On my new vista laptop i had a network
connection (wireless). I ran the install applied the updates and then all of
a sudden the network connection stopped working. I cannot seem to get a DHCP
address from my linksys54G router! but i could before i installed all the
updates. I dont know which one did it. This happens on both my wireless and
wired connection. If i put in static ips it all works fine. I have other
machines that can get a dhcp from my router.
now the strange thing. I took the broke laptop across the street and got a
dhcp address from the neighbor?! I bring it back and no go. wired or not.
but i have other laptops and desktops (even virtual pcs) that have no
problem with dhcp. This is my only Vista machine though.
can someone guide me in where to fix this problem? I have tried the
broadcast flag thing but no luck. and keep in mind, i can connect dhcp to
other routers and i could connect to mine before some updates got installed.
but none of the updates were related to the network.
Using a Dell 620. thanks for any help!
