Re: Network icon says not connected but I am
are you using the Intel ProSet utility to manage the wireless or
Windows built in features? If you are using ProSet, do you have the
latest version (different software than the driver itself,
perhaps?).

Hi Barb,
I am using Windows to manage the WiFi. Besides, unlike XP, Vista does not have the option to check or uncheck "Use Windows to manage WiFi". Also the Intel Proset software for Vista (version 12.x) only gives the following options:
Statistics, Diagnose and Administer (to import profile).
The only way to configure the WiFi card is to go to the properties of the WiFi Network Connection under Network & Sharing Center. Intel Proset does not provide an icon in the tray where it shows signal strength, etc. like other adapters do (Netgear, Linksys, etc.)

In device manager, when you select roll back driver for this
adapter, how many version are listed and what are the dates?

Barb,
I anticipated that you were going to ask me to roll back and I did but that did not solve the problem. As a matter of fact, I tried several other versions of the Proset Intel 3945 drivers and none resolved the issue.

Unbinding IPv6 did not help. I have not had the opportunity to try another location with another router. I will do so and let you know.

Barb,
I went to a hotspot (Starbuck) and utilized their WiFi surfing the net for about an hour. Problem did not maifest itself. I would have likes to stay online longer but I had other commitments. So it could be a problem with my Actiontec Router although with Actiontec, sometimes it took a few hours for the problem to show up, other times it took only minutes.
Regardless, after returning home, I reset the Actiontec to factory settings. This wiped out the port forwarding I had and started clean. I have been using the internet for over an hour and until now, all is fine. I have lost the ability to remote connect using TSWEB but this issue is not as intriguing as the other.
So for now, I will pin the problem on incorrect router settings. I will keep you posted of any development and hopefully we can close this thread and at the same time help others.
Mike
