Progress! I finally discovered that Gateway had installed and turned on the
McAffee firewall as well as the Windows firewall. I turned it off and the
situation is improved.
I am now able to see, install and print using the Canon i960 printer
attached to the Vista machine from any of the XP machines. I am also able to
see the "Public Folder" shares on the Vista machine from any of the XP
machines. This is better.
I still can't see, install or print using the Samsung ML-1210 on the Linux
(Samba) box from the Vista machine.
I can see the Vista "Drive C" file share from the XP machines now, but when
I try to open the drive I get a "permissions" error. The permissions on that
share are exactly the same as the "Public Folder" share but the behavior is
different. I have tried this with and without password protection. Without
password protection I get the "permissions" error. With password protection I
am prompted for a user name and password, and then I get the "permissions"
error.
So, I'm getting closer, but still don't quite have things working.
