Re: vista logon
The classic logon is not available in Vista. You can force a Ctrl-Alt-Del to
logon but you won't get the classic logon.

With Vista Home Basic, and I presume its the same with Vista Home Premium,
you can change the...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\System\DontDisplayLastUserName

....value from the default zero (0) to one (1). When you logoff and back on
you will be presented with a login screen that asks for the User ID and
Password, ie. not the default Vista Welcome screen with all users listed.
Will that work for you?

Note you do not need to reboot for the change to take effect. You should
also run regedit as an administrator.

With Vista Ultimate, Enterprise or Business editions you can do the same
thing using the group policy editor.

Re: vista logon
That really sucks for me, actually, because Vista won't let any of my user
accounts enter an admin password during UAC prompt (tech service says it's a
corrupt account). The only way I can perceive fixing this is to reset myself
as an admin, but because UAC won't let me enter a password (I'm thinking a
very serious bug), I have to login as an admin. But if Vista prevents a hard
login as admin, how do I perform any admin activity in this scenario?!?!?!?!

Re: vista logon
Vista doesn't prevent you logging in as an admin. The "administrator"
account is disabled by default but any number of other administrator
accounts can exist. If somehow all of the other administrator accounts have
been corrupted then boot into safe mode and the "administrator" account
should be available. It is supposed to enable itself if no other
administrator accounts exist.

Re: vista logon
Awesome, thanks! I thought for sure with Vista Ultimate it would've been
able to easy turn on the classic login screen again. They should've had
something like "basic welcome screen" and "advanced/classic login screen"!

But in Vista Ultimate (and I'm not on a domain at home), I enabled this
option with the Local Security Policy editor, start/secpol.msc, local
policies/security options/Interactive Login: Do not display last user name.

A nice bonus is I don't see any cheesy pictures on the new login screen!
It's just a blank box above the username & password boxes. You'd think
Microsoft would've jumped at the opportunity to put their logo into that
box.

Re: vista logon
My problem is:
I logon as owner and the screen goes black with the cursor arrow the only
thing showing.
I use the ctrl, alt, del, and get a screen with various options to logoff,
change user, task manager.
I log of and get a message other users are using and may loose their work.
What can I do?

Re: vista logon
That's it! How does one get "the default Vista Welsome screen with all users
listed" back. Here is our situation...

We have a single Vista machine, with multiple users accounts, in a domain.
Currently, at machine startup, the user is presented with Ctrl-Alt-Del, which
then takes the user to the classic logon (username/password). Due to the
domain configuration, each user has to type in "domain"\username and password
to log into there personalized desktop. Is there a way to change the logon
screen (@ computer startup) to show icons for each user account, which would
enable the user to simply click her/his name, leading to the entering of that
user's password?

I've the same effect but no solution.

Perhaps after installing Adobe Shockwave plugins and reboot users
(even
in group 'Administrators') get a black screen with movable mouse
cursor.
Even new created users and with reomote desktop logons.

With Ctrl-Alt-Del the "maintenance"/"logon" screen is appearing.

Fortunately the local 'Administrator' was activated. This user gets
the
Windows desktop as usual after logon.

After deactivation of UAC other users get the usual desktop after
logon.

After reactivation of UAC the normal users get the black screen again.
