Vista internet drop after some time (need help!)
My machine keeps dropping the internet after an hour or so of use online. It normally requires me to restart the laptop to get the internet to function again. What is strange is that it still sees my network name but does not allow me to reconnect to it when the internet drops. I went to device manager and disabled and re-enabled the wireless and it brought it back to life.
What could be causing this, and is there a fix for it? My dads laptop with vista doesnt have this problem. I have already tried turning off the power save feature on the wireless and also unchecked Qos, ipv6, and both link-layer topology in the wireless network connection properties. Also, I just did a fresh install of Vista to see if it helps and no dice. Also updated all the windows updates, even to SP1 and still no dice.

I have an Alienware aurora m9700 duo core 2.0 ghz, 1 gig ram, 80 gig HD, Realtek 8185 Extensible 802.11b/g Wireless Device, Vista Home Premium. Any help from you guys is greatly appreciated!

below is a copy of my ipconfig after the internet drop if this can help you guys diagnose my problem.

Re: Vista internet drop after some time (need help!)
hmm?
Maybe a power saver feature on the network card?
check the properties of your network card itself for such.
and BTW:
I don't see any IP addresses in your ipconfig /all .
I am amazed you are connecting to the internet at all

Maybe his last statement would explain the reason. ;-)

Re: Vista internet drop after some time (need help!)
oops, ya.

xtremejimmy,
be sure to enable the network before checking for the power management
tab,
It might not even show up unless the connection is active (on)

I already checked off the power management thing and it still does it. I can disable and re-enable the realtek in device manager and it brings it back to life for a little while. Any other takers on what it can be?
