Vista Unidentified network error
Hello,
I recently upgraded to Vista Ultimate SP1. I am not getting a unidentified
network error. This was from a clean install, so no norton etc blocking. I
also disabled windows firewall. I am connected to a Linksys N Ultra router
(wired). I have tried the general info people have posted on other forums and
am having 0 luck. I even set up a static IP and I still cant see anything on
the network. Any idea what is going on? I heard there may be a problem with
the chipset drivers SP1 loaded, but wanted to check with others before I go
back to XP.

Re: Vista Unidentified network error
did you use regedit to remove IPv6 and make other changes?

It sure looks like you did.

The fact that you have tried unspecified things you found on
unspecified forums indicates your system is in an unstable state at
best. can you go back to a system restore point to before you
started making changes?

Re: Vista Unidentified network error
I did a format and reinstalled vista from scratch (disabled the IPv6) and
still get the same thing. The one thing I did not do was disable IPv6 from
the reg. I'm also going to buy a new NIC today and try that instead of the
onboard. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know..this is
driving me crazy.

Re: Vista Unidentified network error
If you use DHCP, does the DHCP assign IP to the Vista? Or post back with the
result of ipconfig /all.

You didn't have comodo firewall pro installed by any chance.

I had a similar problem caused by the 3rd party firewall.

The information in your ipconfig /all shows that you computer is not
accessing the DHCP server in your router.

The 169.xxx.x.x is microsoft default when no DHCP server is found
