Missing PC

Howdy,
I'm setting up a home network for the first time and I've made some
progress. The desktop can access the shared files on the laptop and the
laptop can "see" the desktop, but can't access any on it. I keep receiving a
message that LIVINGROOM (desktop name) is not a valid domain name. I don't
have domain name that I'm aware of.....
Desktop: Dell Ispirion with Vista Home Premium
Laptop: HP Pavilion with Vista Home Premium
Netgear: Wireless router
Linksys: USB Network adaptor (desktip)

I have some techical experience, but I only do software :-)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Looks like, from what you said, that you have put the desktop name in the
wrong box. It needs to go into the COMPUTER NAME box. Leave the DOMAIN
NAME blank. The WORKGROUP name should be identical for all your computers.
