Yes, I tried that. I still get the same results. Perplexing isn't it?

Re: Unidentified Network / Access: Local Only
ok, so after I posted that response, I decided to do what I had been doing.
Re-try any suggestions made here, even if I had done them twice before. I
really want tis fixed. i don't want to give up on vista yet.

I turn on my computer and it worked. A box popped up asking me to set my
network settings, home,work, etc.

i don't get it, i did nothing. So how long will it work? And, of course it
doesn't see the rest of my computers. They are set at NTFS. I am afraid to
try to fix that. I am afraid it will go back offline, since I didn't do
anything. I just turned it off and walked away. Then turned it on this
morning and it worked.

So in your opinions, is this a permanantly fixed issue? magic?

Re: Unidentified Network / Access: Local Only
Spider,

I want you to know that you are not alone.

I have worked consistently for the last 3 months to try to get the two XP
machines to recognize the new Vista machine on the wireless network. I go way
beyond my "comfort zone", make little progress, and then lose that progress.

My biggest error, I think, is making the assumption that Vista will behave
consistently.

There are only two possibilities, re-starting the dog a. solved your
connection problems, or b. had nothing to do with your connection problems.

I have no dog. Do you have any advice?

Re: Unidentified Network / Access: Local Only
Thank you to all those that tried to assist me. I will take magic, if it
sticks, and continues to work.

Weazer, my advice is to do what I did. Try every freakin' fix you find on
the internet support sites. Then acquire a copy of XP Pro 64bit so you take
the stress out of, "what am I gonna do?". That made me a little, just a
little, more patient with Vista. Now I have a back up if it poops out again.
I will just clean install XP Pro 64 and wait for Vista to decide that the
internet is an integral part of modern day home computing. (Maybe SP1 or 2.)
IDK.

Barb, the xp computers did not show up. So I decided that I had nothing to
lose, since I can't be sure the problem is truly fixed anyway. I installed
the LLTD files on my other two computers running XP. It worked for me.

Here Weazer: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70582
Try installing that on the xp rigs if you haven't, it worked for me. All
computers can see each other.

Point of note, you can't really buy more powerfull parts than I purchased to
build this new high end gaming rig. This was not old equipment or old
design, this was the latest and greatest (almost) of parts. I have no clue
what was wrong or how it got fixed. i have been computing since the days of
the commodore 64 and the Apple and apple II and Apple IIe. I remember
logging onto BBS sites over the phone that was strapped with a rubber band to
a mic over the handset to play blackjack and chat with people. Bottom line,
Buy some magic Weazer.

Oh, and a dog, I think it may have helped.
