Vista to XP file share
Desktop running XP home
Laptop running Vista Home prem
Both on same workgroup
Can see the laptop from the desktop and can drag files acroos the wireless
network
Can see the desktop from the laptop but when I click on any of the shared
folders I get an error message in Vista saying:
\\Desktop\Foldername is not accesible. You might not have permisson to use
the network resource. Etc, Etc.
I have turned off the firewall on the desktop.
As I say works fine accessing Vista laptop from XP desktop, but not the
other way round. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Vista to XP file share
Have you checked to make sure that the folder is actually set up as being
shared on the WinXP machine and that the appropriate permissions have been
set on that folder?

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

Re: Vista to XP file share
Yes
I have tried the folders shard before I got the laptop, turned off sharing
on them and r sharded them, shared folders I have never shared before, full
pemissions, but nothing works
Very strange I can get files from the Vista laptop, but no XP.
Have the same user accounts set on both, same password etc?

RE: Vista to XP file share
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.

Permissions/Share info is there as well.

If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer
sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall.

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be
asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer
from an XP computer.

Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer Sharing Wizard to include
Vista in your “New” Network, even if you had an XP Network set up prior to
adding a Vista computer to it.

Re: Vista to XP file share
Hello Shane,

The problem is on the machine you are attempting to connect to. It's not on
the machine you see the error message. On the computer you are connecting,
check the Event Viewer for an Event ID 2011. If so, you need to fix the
IRPStackSize that is indicated in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article.

Antivirus Software May Cause Event ID 2011

Re: Vista to XP file share
Is your Vista machine any chance a Dell? I had the same exact problem with a
Dell desktop and it was my first Vista machine. I decided to return the
system since I could not get all of my other systems to talk to the machine.
A month later my wife bought me another system from another company and it
works fine. I don't know what the differences are but both were using Vista
Ultimate
