cannot see ME on vista's network map but both have internet and they can ping
each other, WHY??

In Vista's Network and Sharing Center, do you have Network Discovery turned on?

I am not sure that WIN98ME can be seen on the Vista Network Map.
Never the less if you configure the Sharing correctly on both computers you
would be able to Share.
