Remote Desktop Connection

I was emailed a file to open and connect to my company's server. When I
double click on it the rdp icon in the email, a message pops up that says
this file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action.
create an association in the set associations control panel. It's almost
embarrassing to ask how to do this. Can someone please help me??
