Disabled DHCP?
My laptop connects to my work network and internet connection fine. It also
functions on wireless. However, I just got broadband installed at my house
and cannot connect.

I think my laptops believes it is connected to my work connection and tries
to access that, but of course it fails.

According to the agent and friends with the same supplier, there is no need
to install drivers, and the DHCP should set up the connection automatically.

My ipconfig/all looks like this -

Questions/suggestions much appreciated.

Re: Disabled DHCP?
do you have a static IP at work? your system is configured to use
static IP 172.16.240.66. do you have an IT dept at work? they would
need to configure the static as the alternate config and set the
primary for DHCP. If you don't have an IT person, post another reply
if you need more assistance.

Re: Disabled DHCP?
Well, I do have an IT guy but I'm living in Japan and I don't have the
technical Japanese required to really communicate with the guy. So if you
could walk me through the process of switching over, that would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Disabled DHCP?
1. type in

ncpa.cpl

1. in the start box and press enter

2. Right click your network connection and click Properties

3. From the list of network components, select TCP/IPv4 and click
the Properties button.

4. Print out and write down the settings

5. click the advanced tab and write down/print out any settings
there, check the DNS and WINS settings and do the same.

6. Now go back to the first general tab and change both settings to
obtain automatically

7. From that same window select the Alternate Configuration tab.

8. Select User Configured

9. Now enter all the settings you saved/printed

it will take a little longer to connect to the static at work, but
this should work
