firewalls and downloading

i just bought a gateway computer with the vista. i bought a downloading
program to download music. but it keeps saying on my download program that a
firewall is blocking the connection and i can not download anything. and as
soon as i open my download program for some reason my internet won't connect
so that i can browse. but my internet connection says excellent. i turned off
every firewall i can find and it still wont work. i have no idea what to do
please help. thank you!
