Choosing what media is available for Extender

Hi,

I bought an xbox360 about a month ago. After hooking it up, I noticed my new
PC in my home office (Vista Ultimate 64bit) had an installer pop up on the
screen and walked me thru installing Media Center, etc, etc - so that I can
now view pics, tunes, and movies that are on my PC, right on my 50" plasma in
the threater room....I was psyched. waayy cool, right?

Fast forward to a couple days ago. I came down to the theatre room to find
my 8yr old daughter and 10 year old friend watching "Aliens" streaming thru
my xbox from my PC that they were pulling thru over Media Center....Totally
Unsuitable !!

OK, I spent the remainder of that evening trying to move my adult content to
another folder outside My Documents, xbox still found it. I then made sure
the folder was not shared, and had no access for anyone but me (security
tab), xbox still found it. I then tried moving the content to an ancillary
sata HD inside the box and followed all the steps, my xbox still found it. I
moved it then to an external USB drive and xbox still found it....

Does anyone have any idea how I can specifically determine EXACTLY which
folders on my PC can be accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox? Or conversley,
can anyone tell me how I can specifically protect some folders from ever
being accessed by Extender/MediaCenter/Xbox?

This is a cool app, I didn't even know it existed until after I bought my
xbox360 - but was immediatly wayyy sold on it...But I simply must be able to
control the content that my kids have access to.

Can anyone help me?

Ha, just re-read my post and when I said "adult content" I meant movies that
were rated PG-13 or R and not suitable for children...I blushed when I
re-read my own post

Wow, I'm really disappointed. I just thought I'd ask this question to
Microsoft and had to spend considerable time just to find where I can submit
a request..Then because I bought my Vista 64bit Ultimate in Sept 07 and it's
4 months old I have to pay $50 for the privelege of asking my question. Is
that what Microsoft support is? access to the community forums that anyone
can have? I support a unix app and have for 10+ years and I wish we could
take the money and then treat our customers this way...Well, I won't look
down with distain on the people and companies that are ripping them off or
suing them anymore that's for sure.

I think you're talking about 2 different things.... This is the world wide
wild web... where anything can and usually does happen....

The premium support that you seem to be referring to, is where they
guarantee a response within so many hours...
I'm not sure you're in the right spot to send or to receive your response.

Hi Dave,
You could be right I guess....I just go up the start menu to "Help and
Support" on my new vista machine, then click on "Microsoft Customer Support
online" this directs me to a bunch of FAQ and static help pages at
Microsoft's site and none of which answer my question. So I then click the
"Need More Help?" link which takes me to a page explaining that the 1st 90
days of support is free and then it's a min of $59.00 per issue afterward. I
try to check if I'm within that 90 days because it's close for me on this new
PC, and although I activated my Vista 64bit Ultimate "mac-daddy, best you can
get, yadi, yadi" they have no record of my product ID number. Just amazing,
really....It's frustrating...I don't need to be wowed by MS Support, i would
settle for them being mediocre - but I can't even penatrate the beaucracy
enough to get a ticket in unless i let them reach into my wallet (again) and
pull out another $59. For which I'll almost certainly get nothing in return
for ("who are you again mr customer?")...

No suprises anyway, I just wish there was a viable alternative...I just feel
so used buying a $450 Xbox and $340 with of Vista "Ultimate" within 6 weeks
of each other and I can't even get an email to them for help without them
asking me for more.
