I'm trying, unsuccessfully, to get Windows 98 Second Edition to access
Vista's Ultimate's shared folders, and I'd like to know if anyone has
a solution.
On Vista Ultimate, I followed the steps that Michael A. Bishop (MSFT)
gave in his "Vista & Samba" reply to allow LM and NTLM authentication.
Then, I rebooted Vista and:
1. I logged into Vista and 98SE using the same user name and password.
2. On 98SE, I typed the Vista's computer name in the Start > Run box
in this format:
\\computer
I expected 98SE to authenticate with Vista using LM and show Vista's
shared folders. However, Vista rejected the credentials provided by
98SE, which caused 98SE to display a prompt for the password for the
resource "\\Computer\IPC$".
Is it possible to access Vista's shared folders from 98SE using LM
authentication?
