Hi
I've found a problem with the People Near Me in Vista, if I sign in, the
latency and packet loss on my broadband connection goes mad, as shown here:
http://www.barnsdesigns.co.uk/graph-aaisp.png you can see the packet loss
(red) where People Near Me was signed in, and signing out and clicking Exit
does not stop it.
The graph is from my ISP
www.aaisp.net.uk
I can repeat the problem and fix it by doing this:
Sign in to People Near Me (PROBLEM STARTS)
Click Diagnose and repair under Network and Sharing Center then on the
screen that says "Windows did not find any problems with your Internet
connection." click Turn off the TCP setting that is not compatible with your
router. (THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM)
Click Diagnose and repair again and click "Turn on TCP performance improving
settings." (STILL DON'T HAVE THE PROBLEM)
Sign in to People Near Me (PROBLEM STARTS AGAIN)
I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Dell Inspiron 8600 connecting to a 3Com
3CRWE454G72 Wi-Fi Access Point then to a Zyxel Prestige 662HW-61 ADSL
Router.
I have no need to use People Near Me but would just like to let everyone
know of the problem and how I stopped it.
