Cannot connect to Inernet contrary to Network and Sharing Center
Hi all,

I have had this strange situation many time. My computer suddenly loses
connection to Internet (i.e. the IE does not get pages, eMail cannot download
new email, etc.) while the Network and Sharing Center shows my computer is
connected to a wireless router that is connected to the Inernet. When this
happens, my other computers that are connected to the router does not have
any problem with Internet; also a program that accesses another other
computer still works fine meaning the connection to the wireless router works
fine. This problem can always be solved by restarting Windows. I have never
had this problem with XP.

Any tip to avoid this or solve it without restarting Windows would be
greatly appreciated.

In some cases, reset power management may fix this problem. Or this search
result may help.

Vista Internet Access IssuesI just upgraded to vista and I never had this
problem with XP. I've always been able to connect to the internet using my
router or directly connected . ...

Re: Cannot connect to Inernet contrary to Network and Sharing Center
If your other equipment does not support it, try turning off IPv6 in TCP/IP
properties for your adapters... I used to lose WiFi with it on, but *that*
problem has gone now... (never mind Vista imagining - or creating! - IP
Conflicts....)

Re: Cannot connect to Inernet contrary to Network and Sharing Cent
Thanks, Bob.

I tried all the tips after the Inernet connection was lost again but none of
them worked (i.e. to regain Internet connection). I had to restart Windows
again as before.

I have noticed a scenario to reproduce it fairly reliably - running a
program that consumes 100% CPU time and accesses a SQL server on another
computer. I will try Julian's tip first (i.e. disable IPv6) before running
the program to see this will prevent it from happening not rescuing it.

Re: Cannot connect to Inernet contrary to Network and Sharing Cent
Hallelujah!!!

I am so excited to report that I have found the culprit - Base Filtering
Engine (BFE).

I have tried almost every tip in the past few days including completely
uninstalling MaAfee Security Center but nothing works. I got a hint from the
following discussion:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...onnection.html

I started examining the services carefully. When I stopped Base Filtering
Engine (BFE) and tried Internet access, it worked! Later, it worked two more
times. I do not have to restart Windows anymore. Now I just need to have the
Services management console ready and stop and start BFE when I lose Internet
connection. It is an annoyance, but far better than restarting Windows.

Thank you all for trying to help out and I really appreciate.
