Network Notification not working
Hi,

Ok, this problem happened just recently and I have no idea how it happened,
it just popped up one day.

So i have Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Now that little icon in the bottom
right hand tray that shows network connectivity isn't working. It used to
show the earth and both computers would flash blue when i was connected, now
it ONLY shows the red X and 2 black screens. This is despite the fact that
I'm still connected to the net. Now this wouldn't bother me so much, but
whenever i try to go to my wireless manager, it freezes up, i can't switch
networks, i can't disconnect and reconnect to another network, i'm stuck w/
whatever my comp chooses first, even if it's one i can't use. I've tried
updating my drivers for it, i've restored my system 3 times also.

Every time I restore my system, i go farther and farther back. Now that
means it works correctly........ for about 30minutes, then it stops again.
No idea what to do, and no idea how to fix it. Would love for some feedback.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Network Notification not working
I just had the same thing happen to me within the past week. When I bring up
the flyover window it says Server Exception, and it stopped functioning.
Yesterday it got the point where it would not even connect to the network. I
went through deleting temp files, prefetch, and various other files. After
restarting I was able to start connecting to the network again, but it takes
forever to bring up the view wireless and network connections. I also
noticed that I am getting errors for the NLA service, and it keeps shutting
down. When I try to start up the NLA service it won't and fails for
insufficent resources. Did something get broke on an update?

RE: Network Notification not working
this is exactly what is wrong with my computer. Is there an answer as to what
I should do?

RE: Network Notification not working
ell after doing some searching through the newsgroups last night, I found the
answer. You have to make the LocalService account part of the Administrators
group. Easiest way to do this is bring up Computer Management, and open up
the Users&groups. Open up groups, and then Administrators. Add LocalService
to the group, restart. It works after that.

RE: Network Notification not working
Easiest way to find Users and Groups is this:

1. Right-Click My Computer
2. Click on Manage
3. Open System Tools selection of Computer Management
4. Open Local Users and Groups

RE: Network Notification not working

First, I still cant find it. In the system section of the manager, it only
gives me:
Task Scheduler
Enevnt Viewer
Shared Folders
Reliability and Performance
Device Manager

Nothing about Users and groups.

Second, in Services.msc, when i try to manually start NLA, it says it is in
the wrong group. Can someone give me the right group to put it in? I know how
to change it, i just dont know what group its supposed to be in, in the
properties section.

Thanks.

RE: Network Notification not working
As for it not showing, do you have Administrative privliages and what version
of Vista are you using. I know on my version (ultimate) it shows up after
Shared Folders and before Reliability and Performance. For the second part
as to the group it should belong in, under services.msc, it should show as a
network service, and not a local service.
