Automatically connect to wireless on boot-up

I shall uninstall the wireless driver and install the new one - hopefully it
will go and not have the wizard stopping. I won't be able to it until
tomorrow but will certainly let you know how I make out.

I ran services.msc and the WLAN was not started nor set to automatic. Wonder
how that would happen. However, I changed it to start and automatic. I
rebooted but the wireless didn't start automatically. I have gone back to
plugging in the cable for now.

I just want to say how much help you have been to me today - I know we'll
beat this thing and your help and guidance was of inestimable value. Thanks.

Was able to tackle the uninstall of the driver tonight. I did it several
times - both uninstall and disable and uninstall. However, the wizard didn't
work as I had mentioned before. From the extracted zip file, I clicked on
iodifx.exe and it started to install. Said it was successful. But when I
checked it reinstalled the old v10.6.0.15 rather than the v11......version.
This seems to defy logic. Then I went into the path
\windows\system32\drivers\NETW3v32.sys. After the uninstall this file
remained. I was almost ready to delete this file as the new one appears to be
NETW4v32.sys which I could copy in. Then run install again. However, I was
hesitant without checking with you - is it wise or safe to simply delete the
NETW3v32.sys and paste in the v4 file or am I playing with fire?

Please confirm you are an administrative user and that you ack yes
to the prompt to run services.msc.

It may be worth checking for malware on your system at this point
given that you can't get WLAN to stay as you've set it and the issue
installing drivers.

Good Morning,

I am the only one using this computer - there are no passwords to get onto
the computer. So I would think I am classed as the administrator. When I ran
services.msc I was not prompted for a yes or no to access this. I typed in
the services.msc in 'run' and it gave me the info.

I ran PC spyware doctor for the malicious software and it gave me 56
infections, 2 of which were rated high. The software fixed all infections. I
also downloaded the MS malicious software tool and subsequently ran it and no
infections showed up.

I tried to uninstall the wireless intel driver and as soon as it showed
uninstall, the system immediately started to install the driver and showed up
shortly as successfully installed. Again, the old 2006 driver was installed.

Tried repairing and turning off the modem and rebooting the laptop but the
same thing happened. It works fine with the cable connected so I guess I will
just forget the wireless.

with UAC on, you should have been prompted to run services.msc.

did you turn off UAC? if you didn't, since it is on by default in
Vista, then some malware has most likely made some changes.

the fact that you have found malware is still worrisome. your system
still may be compromised.

I'd start at http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm and spend the time
insuring that everything is removed. I would never trust a single
tool.

I had another go at it and it seems to be successful. I checked the uac and
it shows on. This reminded me that I am the only user on this machine so I am
the administrator - I haven't used a password and from what I have read, it
is unwise to have the administrator user open all the time. I guess I should
give mysel another user account with limits and use the admin. account for
special actions.

I found the URL that you gave me - WSC - is sure excellent. I followed it
step by step. I have used Ad-aware on an earlier PC so installed on the
notebook. It found 5 infections which I then deleted.

Uninstalled the wireless driver. It stayd uninstalled this time. Then I
restarted the machine and lo and behold the wireless driver automatically
installed. I manually got the wireless working once. Then no to the 2nd and
3rd tries. Shut down the modem for 10 seconds and the wireless would manually
accept the SSID. At least it is working manually now which is a big step. If
it won't work automatically, so be it.

Just checked and no, the new driver was not installed. Maybe the old one
uninstall/install helped. This morning I got on wirelessly (manually) and
then I rebooted to see if it would go a second time. No luck. I got to local
connection but not out to the 'net. So I connected by cable to carry on. I'll
ry fiddling with it some more a bit later. The device manager continues to
say that the card is "working properly". I'm beginning to wonder if the card
intself is a bit faulty.

I don't know how long you've had this computer, but considering the
issues with malware, etc. it still could have some remnants. Before
I'd label the card faulty, I'd definitely try a complete factory
reload. (did the computer come with a program to wipe the hard drive
and restore to the original out of box condition?)

I'm having the same problem with Vista on my new Fujitsu laptop.
Basically, when the machine is turned on, ecen though it is set up to
automatically connect to the newtowrk wirelessly, it simply doesnt. By
running windows diagnotics as prompted by the machine, it then tells
me that wireless networking is not enable and do i want to turn it on.
If i answer yes tothis then it connects and hey presto. All the
settings seem to suggest its set up for automatic connection but
simply doesnt seem to automatically connect. Is this a vista fault? My
parent have the same machine adn exactly the same issues.
Help!!!!
