firewall settings for home network

Hi i have a 2 pcs running vista, one hard wired other wireless. Have managed
to setup home network and specifically printer sharing, but this only works
if i switch off the windows firewalls on both pcs.
I am obviously concerned that this leaves me vulnerable what can i do to fix
this problem.

I have the network location set to "private" for wired and wireless Vista
machines on my home LAN. That allows me to enable network discovery,
sharing, etc...
