can't import DV through firewire

i've got a mv700 canon camcorder and can't import video files onto the
computer. canon has no drivers for vista for this camcorder, but the canon
support center says it should work through the IE 1394 firewire connection,
but it doesn't. neither windows movie maker nor power director on windows
vista get a signal when the cam is connected. and it worked just fine on
XP...any idea!?

It could be that some item has developed a fault.
Is this a brand new computer, or did you upgrade from XP to Vista, where
your old xp worked?

I'd start by checking all the items, cam/cable/pc firewire port with other
ones you know work.
