Installing a Canon D1250U2F scanner

I have installed my old scanner to my new computer. I downloaded the
appropriate Vista compatible programme from the Canon website.
If I go to Control Panel, select Scanners & Cameras, it shows the scanner as
available. If I select Add Device from here and go through the Wizard, the
Canon scanner does not appear.

If I go to Windows Photo Gallery the Canon scanner does not show and does
not appear when I click Refresh.

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?
