No Sound

My Dell laptop with Windows Vista is docked on a Dell docking station. I am
unable to get sound from headset or speakers built into laptop. I have tried
plugging headset into laptop and into docking station with no success. I do
not have external speakers hooked up.

In Device Manager, it shows my sound card and under properties it says it is
working. I have tried installing Windows updates and there are none for my
card. When I try to update drivers for the card, it says drivers are already
up to date.

I'm not sure if I understood, but what will happen if you select your output
device manually: Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar -> click Playback
devices -> right-click your Speakers -> Set as Default device?
