Choppy music playing on Windows Media Player. Please Help.

I just purchase a new Dell Core2Duo with 4mb of L2 cache and Windows Vista
Home Premium. When we are playing our MP3 files, the music gets choppy like
Windows is running other programs in the background. We are afraid to rip
more music CDs, because we don't want the issue to cause problems during
ripping.

We purchase the Core2Duo with 4mb of L2 cache because we thought that it can
run multiple processes at the same time without glitches. We don't
understand why this is happening even when we are not running anything else
but Windows Media Player. On our desktop, there is the Google sidebar that
came with Vista Home Premium, and it has a clock, Windows photos, and Google
World News running. Could that be causing the problems with playing music?
Please advise. Thank you.

2.4ghz Core 2 duo
2gb Ram
Vista Home Premium

Happens on the last 20 seconds of an mp3

My guess is Driver or codec - from dell

If you have a Sigma Tel audio adapter, try this as a workaround until proper
drivers are available.:

Right click on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area of the Taskbar, select
Playback Devices, highlight Speakers, Properties button, Enhancements tab, and
deselect all enhancements.

Thanks for replying, guys. I checked, and all the enhancements were already
disabled. Must have been the default settings, because I didn't disable them
before. I turned off the Google sidebars, which is disappointing because I
like the Google sidebars. The problem still persists, but with less
frequency. Any other suggestions? It's a brand new computer, Core2Duo, 4mb
L2 cache, and 1GB of Ram, and I'm running no other applications beside
Windows Media Player.

Does it indeed have a Sigma Tel audio adapter? If not, have you updated your
audio device drivers?

Ok this fix does work, without any noticably side effects, that i could
detect. Here is the Driver version, for those that want to know
