Music inaccessable

Well lovely. I didn't know there was a compatability issue with iTunes unitl
I just started borwsing here. But now, all my music, not just what I imported
into iTunes seems locked or something. After I installed iTunes I didn't make
it the default player either.
I go to the actual folder it's kept in (not the songs I in iTunes mind you)
and go to have them play in Windows Media Player. The player keeps telling me
it can't access the music files and is telling me something about my proxy
being incorrect (whatever that is).
So, I rip a CD onto my computer. It can't play those files! It gives me the
same error message.
I'm no big computer genius so I have no idea what to do. It's about 6GB of
music locked for no reason.
Please help me.

Which tool are you using to rip the CDs?
When you click the "Web Help" button on the Error Details message you get,
what is the URL that it takes you to?
