Windows Photo Gallery - Large Gallery

I have over 400,000 images in my gallery (on a server) and I noticed that it
doesnt try and cache all the thumbnails for fast performance. It seems like
the pictures.pd4 file has a cap of 350k on it but I have more than enough
space for it to be bigger.

Does anyone have any help for being able to optimize huge galleries? This is
almost unusable in its current form. I'm thinking of going back to picasa.

btw, this is on a Vista Ultimate x64 Machine with a quad core and 4gb of RAM.
