Need Mpeg Layer3 for Win Vista Hm Premium

I'm still trying to get Mpeg Layer2 on my Vista machine. Help Please.

On my XP machine I have Mpeg layer 3 as an option for compressing audio
files. How can I get this as an option on my Vista Hm Premium machine and
how do I load it so it shows up as an option? Here is what I have done so
far and it hasn't worked.

I downloaded and extracted the file: lame-398.tar.gz to a temp folder but
now I'm not sure how to install it or what to do with it. I'm not even sure
if this is what I want to install. Can someone tell me what I need to do so
I can get mpeg layer 3 as on option for some of my programs that needs that
compression option? Thanks for the help.

mpeg layer 3 files are more commonly known as mp3 files MP3 (MPEG layer 3) definition If you need to convert any files to mps this free app is one of the best Format Factory - Download They will play in windows media player.

After a little more searching I found that what I needed was "Lame ACM MP3
V3.98.2" (file name: LameACM.inf ). I downloaded and installed it on my
Vista machine and I now have Mpeg Layer 3 as a compression option.
