WMM black screen with audio

Hi,

I only started using Windows Movie Maker today so I'm completely new
with it. I've been using .avi files and they were loading fine, picture
and audio, until I tried to drag a .mkv into WMM. The .mkv did not play
audio or video, but now the preview screen for the .avi files that were
working fine just a minute ago has gone black, although the audio still
plays.

I tried disabling codecs, but this doesn't help.

I'm running Windows Vista Version 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1) /
Windows Movie Maker Version 6.0.6000.163.86

It may be worth a try to do a System
Restore to a time before the issue began.
