movie maker, avi files

Hello, I find that movie-maker crashes whenever I try to import a .avi file.
I think .avi files are supported ?. Any advice pls ?

There are hundreds of types of .avi files...many
of them cause issues with Movie Maker.

Best bet IMHO...would be to convert the .avi file to
the .wmv format before importing into Movie Maker..

Maybe one of the following free downloads will work
for you:

FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software.

I notice that the .avi files work OK in Media Player, even though they crash
movie-maker. Is this to be expected ?

I use AVC (Any Video Converter) to convert files. Do you know it & do you
thinks it's OK.

I have never tried installing extra codecs, is it straightforward , and
might it help movie-maker to work properly ?

Yes...just because a file plays in Windows Media Player
is no guarantee that it will be compatible with Movie MAker.

Sorry...I have no experience what that converter.

Try the conversion and see what happens.

All I can say is it may be worth a try.
