recording from vinyl

I have Vista Premium Home edition. How can I copy my vinyl collection to the
hard drive?

I waited months to get a computer with Vista. Oops.

Phono out from your AMP/Record deck into your soundcard line-in/mic (3.5mm
jack?)
WAV capture software then recode to MP3 or capture direct to MP3 if your PC
has the power to do so.
Pretty sure Nero has the capability to do this this.

It will guide you on how to use your audio adapters line in inputs to record.

You can use Windows Sound Recorder to capture the audio, but a tool like
GoldWave (free) or Adobe Audition will enable you to take out the pops and
scratches, adjust the tone balance, etc.

Won't work - phono out is a very low-voltage signal, and the line in is looking
for a .5 volt level. You will have to buy a phono pre-amp or hook up an old
receiver to do it properly.

Stay away from USB turntables - the conversion sampling is below par.


Roxio comes with a nice CD/Tape duplicating program that can auto separate
tracks and reduce/eliminate pops and ticks.
