video lag

in windows media player and movie maker almost all my videos lag where the
sound gets way ahead of the video and never catches up. It does this for
every format except wmv. Please help me fix this.

The WMV format uses pretty high compression so the bitrate is low
meaning the player doesn't have to work as hard as it does for less
compressed formats.

I would trying playing on different applications to rule out there is
something wrong with the video themselves.

Two good ones, both free, are VLC Media Player and XnView.

The videos work fine in divx player, but I don't like using that program
because it takes too long to open to watch the video
