Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.
When I add more than five short movie clips, save and quit, then reload it, I
can't play the timeline or export the movie. I can edit and everything else
just fine, I just can't play it back. Does anyone know what's wrong?

RE: Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.
I have this same problem. It's like once I edit it past a certain point it
won't let me play it back.

Me too, same exact issue. Have either of you figured out how to deal with
this?! Anyone else? Many thanks!

What file types are you using?

Re: Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.

Thanks for your help. The short movies from my camera are saved as avi files
and the pictures as jpeg files. It is a new computer with windows vista and
I have only installed Canon Zoombrowser for my digital camera and logitech
for a webcam as well as skype. The computer came with a short term Corel
Snapfire trial
subscription which is the default picture application.
Is that helpful, do you need any further info? Is there further info I
could give you on files?
I have also disabled all the video filters.
Do I have too many picture applications, should I uninstall zoombrowser?
Many many thanks!

RE: Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.
I just spent over an hour on the phone with Microsoft. After I walked the
tech guy(s) through the issue (will not play timeline) they concluded that
there is a limit on the amount of video you can add. Keep your movies short
and then add each one to DVD maker is your best bet, I guess. Or, invest in
some good video editing software!

Who specifically did you talk to? Or what was your support incident number?

RE: Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.
I think I'm having the same problem, but the reply you got from support seems
odd, as this problem only occurs after I exited WMM and started it another
day. So in my original session, I was able to play the timeline/storyboard.
And, although I couldn't preview it, I could publish it.

Lastly, I don't think my clip is very long - it publishes as a 10MB 70
second clip. Is this similar behaviour you are experiencing and video size
you are using?

RE: Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.
I was able to simulate it with the Microsoft guy on the phone and it happened
after I added several transitions as well - even with a couple short clips.
He was a Vista guy who was getting support in the background from someone and
no one could come up with a solution or a cause. He only said that the
program appeared to be limited- by not only video length, but transitions and
effects. It is different every time I use it, but sometimes I can edit a lot
of video with no problems and other times it stops playing after only a
couple clips and transitions. I have started doing short projects and then
saving them and adding them to DVD Maker so that I don't have to worry about
it. The bottom line is that it is easy to use but quite limited and
Microsoft wasn't aware of it when I called. Perhaps they may address it in
the future- but for now I am looking in to better (and more expensive)
software as I use a lot of video at work. WMM should be fine for just
recreational projects.... It does publish- the problem seems to be "limited"
to playing back the timeline. When that has happened during my projects I
have hit the "undo" button until the timeline popped back up, saved it and
started a new one- merging the two projects into DVD Maker. Let me know
what you think!

Re: Movie Maker's Timeline won't play.
Very interesting... I'd be curious to see a copy of the project file, and
know about the kinds of source files being used....

The limitations in Vista are similar to those of XP's Movie Maker 2.1....
but Vista is better.
