Setting WMP11 As My Default

I just installed QuickTime and I want to use WMP as my default. Under Set
Default Programs, I've selected WMP as my default. It was still defaulting
to QuickTime so I went to Set Program Access and Computer Defaults and
selected WMP instead Use My Current Media Player but it reverts to the
latter.I then selected QuickTime and under Set Program Associations and set
all extensions for WMP. I cannot unselect the checked items for QuickTime.
What am I doing wrong?

What file associations are 'sticky' to QuickTime using what launching method
for those file types?
