Movie Maker not importing avi file

For the past year I've taken videos with my Kodak digital camera,
coverted the MOV files to AVI using RAD video tools, and then edited the
AVIs using Windows Movie Maker, with no problems.

Suddenly today, when I try to import an AVI file to WMM, I cannot, and
I get the message "XYZ.avi could not be imported" with no other error
explanation.

What could the problem be? Thanks for any help you can provide.

it's related to codecs.... the ones used by RAD video tools to make the AVI
files...

if you usually go with the default selected by RAD tools, you might need to
select them yourself.

use GSpot to see which codecs the files are made with.... older ones that
work in Movie Maker, assuming they still do... and new ones that don't.

I found my own mistake.

It looks like when I was doing the conversion with the RAD Tools Bink
It program, I chose as the compressor "Microsoft RLE" instead "Microsoft
Video 1." I re-converted the file, and everything's ok now.
