unable to rip /media player shows-no disc(E:)

When I try to rip from audio cd's the media player shows no disc in e
drive. I have tried
rebooting and on occasion the player will rip,but then after a while
the no disc warning reappears and it will not rip. Any suggestions. I'm
using Vista Home Premium x32. The laptop has only the one drive. There
is no problem when I attempt to burn.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does the disc show up in Explorer... ?
It sounds like your drive is wonky. =\
