filing pictures

Oh the frustration of new computer programs!! What is the easiest way, once I have down loaded photos from my camera to file them? On my long lost friend 'XP' I simply used to right click and file them with one click, now I am dragging them ontop desktop and then dragging them to the various files. Please help!
