DVD compatibility

I am new to making videos and have worked with Windows Movie Maker to edit
some videos shot while in Alaska. I was able to make movie segments and
published them to My Computer. The intent was to be able to pick and choose
which segments published to DVD for friends, etc. After saving to computer,
I then used both Windows Media and the wizard to burn DVDs. My computer is a
Dell with DVD burner and Windows VIsta Home Premium. I found I could make
DVDs that worked on other computers but would not work on the main DVD system
to show on my big screen TV. I use the Sony recordable DVD player model RDR
GX330 for use with my TV. It will not read these DVDs made on my computer???
Any thoughts out there??

Can you state what program you used to make your DVD? You said 'Windows
Media', but I am confused by the term. It almost sounds as if you 'burned'
a data disc and not a movie disc. I use Windows DVD Maker to create my
DVD's; is that what you used?
