Visat and Windows Media player

I just bought a new computer...and am trying to learn all the in's and out's
of Vista.

Upon playing around w/ Windows Media Player...and trying to play a video
(avi video)...I only get the audio portion of it..no video.

How do I go about getting the video?

What video codec does the content use?
