windows movie maker help

Hi
when ever i try to import media file i get this windows movie maker has
stopped working a problem caused the program to stop working
correctly.windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available. i can not find any solution to it. does anyone know of a fixs to
this? the file i am trying to import is type vlc media file {avi} movie maker
version 6.0.6000.16386
