CD didn't close properly & photos lost

We have windows vista as our operating system & I was viewing a CD I had
burned sometime ago of .jpg files (family photos). I tried to add a tag on
one photo to print it later. At that stage the computer froze & stayed that
way, so i ended up switching it off but forgot to take out CD. When i next
tried to load CD it said there was nothing on it. An IT friend tried to help
& thought that it was a live session all I needed to do was to close the
session. But when I right clicked on E: the option to close the session was
not available.

I also tried to just search for jpg files on the C: and have found all the
missing photos but when right clicking on them to open,print etc get the
following msg. Windows cannot find picture.You may have specified the wrong
location or have lost access to network location.

I do hope someone can help as I have been up until the small hours for 3
days trying to work out how to get these precious photos back. Thanks.

In properties do you see memory used on the cd?
If so then all is not lost there are programs that can dig out the
contents of the CD/DVD
One comes to mind "isobuster" the freeware version will do most
recoveries, the paid for version is awesome , read at the following.

Thank you so much for the isobuster information. I ended up paying for a
licence but it was well worth it as I have managed to retrieve at least 80%
of the photos, you are right it truly is awesome. I cant thank you enough
for your help.
