? vista and vob issues?
hi there, im really hoping someone can help as ive been trying to sort this
for over a week, and im getting to the someone better hide the sharp objects
stage!
ive only just got this vista laptop, and have had a number of issues, and
whilst trying to resolve this issue, ive come to the conclusion thats its
vista based, but i havent found a solution...yet!!
ive been trying to import vob files recorded from my dvdr so that i can edit
them. id been happily importing them on my sleepy ol xp desktop using nero,
however the version i have isnt compatible with vista, so...
ive tried importing/opening files, in various ways via wmm, cyberlink
powerdirector (that came bundled) and via a trial version of the newest nero
(which annoyingly no longer has an import disc function!) , i tried all the
options, including nero encoder. every single program gives up, and stops
responding, then closes. i copied the entire disc to my hard drive, thinking
i could get to it from there, no joy, wont work. in addition, when i try to
explore the ts folder in windows, ( i was hoping to rename the files to mpgs)
windows gives up and restarts. i downloaded the windows encoder, but of
course when i go to select a file, it closes and restarts...it doesnt even
bother telling me its gonna do it anymore, just does
it!aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhh!!!!i have loads and loads of bloomin vobs id
saved to edit and burn, i really hope someone can help!
in addition, i can watch all the dvds on the pooter, apart from the strange
fact that although they were recorded widescreen, play back fine on
widescreen tvs, in various dvd players, they playback 4:3 on all the programs
i have tried on this widescreen laptop. despite the options being set for
widescreen in each program. this is sooooo not fun anymore!
sorry to have gone on and on, but its one thing after another, and i really
hope someone can help!thankyou!

RE: ? vista and vob issues?
well, thanks for all the replies!!im just posting my findings incase anyone
stumbles across this with the same query.turns out its a well known windows
issue, not just vista. there are some easy ways to fix it, and if they dont
work, some harder ones. its best to search under vob+windows+crash or
something similar.its not a bug apparently...

Re: ? vista and vob issues?
I haven't seen the whole conversation but if you're simply trying to rip a
home
DVD then use dvdshrink or smartripper or dvddecrypter. Now once you have
the vob files on your HDD you could use DGindex to demux audio/video
and go from there.
