Importing Video from a camcorder to Windows Media Player

I am trying to get a video off of my friends camcorder. I have the fire wire
cord and it is plugged in and starts to import. It gets all the way through
the tape and there is plenty of space on my hard drive.
Then it pops up and says completing video import and is what looks is trying
to load to 100% but it stays at 0 and goes no where.. Help!!!
