changing video extension/uploading video to you tube

I have been trying to help my son upload a video to you tube and it just
never appears. I am thinking we need to change the extension of the video
from .MWV to some other extension before saving/uploading the video. Does
anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for this novice movie maker?

YT accepts your Windows Movie files (WMV), but not exceding 100Mb and no
explicit ****.
