Cannot play video from internet.

When I clicked on a link on the internet for a video, it used to open and
play automatically in Windows Media Player. For instance, I watch horse races
live through a site. When I click on the track link, it used to open up WMP
and start playing. It no longer does that. If I click on a link for video, it
used to open up and start in WMP, now it asks me if I want to download it.
WMP is still working as it should as I can play downloaded video as well as
music.
I am almost certain that I haven't changed any settings, even by mistake.
What am I missing?

That should indicate that the file association has become mangled. Did you
install or uninstall third party players on the system?
