MPEG previews in Vista Explorer

Hi guys, I believe i should have MPEG previews and it is impossible to
organise videos if you have to open them one by one.

So my camera is a SONY hard disk camera, and I can view the video in
WMP, but i'm still thinking maybe if i installed the codec again it
would preview. So how do i know which codec it uses?

Or, if it is related to file type and not codec, how do i get .MPG
previews?

I do have .mp4 (MPEG 4-layer) previews, which is far more recent. I
remember reading about preview handlers so i'll google that next.

Aaaand i may have found an answer. Seems the culprit might be Nero.
Got something to do with "Percieved Type"
'Video thumbnail preview picture not showing - Microsoft Windows Vista
Community Forums - Vistaheads' (http://tinyurl.com/2ll3xc)

Still if anyone has another way out, let me know.

Re: MPEG previews in Vista Explorer

so still no answer? cmon guys, i know you have had this problem. I have
run a .reg file and oddly, now i have previews in one folder of my
videos, but not in other SIBLINGS. Same extension and everything!
Screenshot taken which i could upload if i could be bothered.

But so far i have had no evidence of anyone else here?

Re: MPEG previews in Vista Explorer

Try with DirectShow Filter Manager ('DirectShow Filter Manager'
(http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm)). Delete all Nero DirectShow
Filters. Run regedit, find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mpeg. Rightclick on mpeg,
new key (rename it to ShellEx). Rightclick on ShellEx, new key (rename
it to {BB2E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}). In the right window
doubleclick on value (Default) and under value data write
{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}. Restart computer. I hope this
should help.
